I'm interested in getting an inexpensive used oscilloscope calibrator and the big Fluke boxes are out of my price range. The possibilities are a Bradley 192 or a Heathkit IG-4505 from the US. Due to age any purchase will be bit of a lottery and I can't afford to get the calibrator itself calibrated, but part of the fun for me is using the equipment rather than getting exact results. Hello Peter, I've had no experience of the Heathkit Calibrator, but a quite lot of experience of the Bradley 192, both as a user and also calibrating them.

I presume we are talking about the later model with the brushed silver front panel IIRC there was an earlier version with a yellow front panel? They are very easy to use with deviation of time or voltage shown on the center zero meter with +/- 3% & +/- 10% ranges.

A nice feature is that there are buttons to set the number of vertical divisions required also +ve & -ve dc voltage out plus a fast rise output of (slightly) variable amplitude. Very reliable, can't remember having to fix one, and rarely required adjustment. Regards Mike A.

You can find older Tektronix calibration equipment that's reasonably priced and much more accurate and versatile than anything you'll find from Heathkit. There's the older 067-0502-00 and -01 amplitude generator, 106 pulse generator, 193 (or was that 163?) leveled sine wave generator, 181 and 184 time mark generator, 2901 time mark generator and the newer TM500-series instruments: PG506, TG501, SG502, SG503 and SG504. The TM500 stuff was really fine calibration instrumentation, so may still be a bit pricey. But there were pretty much the standard of the industry. Fluke used the Tek TM500 instruments to calibrate Fluke and Philips scopes.

Indeed, Dean Huster writing from US will be very aware of Tek stuff, as they dominated that market. But here in UK, there were other good manufacturers, though they had to market without the benefit of the what appears to be 'The Tek Supporters Group'. I suppose we equally have 'the Avo Supporters Group' here in the UK. Both valuable at collecting and publishing information exclusively about their company's products. The Bradley was well liked and seemed to have sold well.

It was particularly convenient to use as it contained everything in one box, not the half dozen different instruments which Dean H notes.
